Christine Rains 1303: The Dragonslayer Blog Tour!

Christine Rains is on FIRE this month with the releases from her 13th Floor Series! Today, following tradition, Christine talks about the romantic relationship in 1303: The Dragonslayer!

1303 – The Dragonslayer
By Christine Rains

XAN & LOIS

Dragons still walk amongst us. They might look human, but Xanthus Ehrensvard knows the truth. The rest of the world would never believe him, though. Dragonslayers like Xan used to be celebrated heroes, but now they live in the shadows and save innocents from monsters they no longer believe in. It's a lonely life, but it's righteous. Honor and duty matter.  As well as being clean. Very, very clean.

Lois King scoffs at superstitious nonsense. With spunk and determination, this reporter will discover the truth. Of course, when the truth happens to be an ancient dragon whom the voters put in the Senate, it's a bit more difficult to grasp. Lois won't be deterred, though. Maybe distracted momentarily by a shirtless dragonslayer, but she's going to find the story to make her career.

When Xan meets Lois, his world suddenly gets incredibly messy. It's stressful enough that he failed in his slaying of the Governor, but Xan takes on the mission of convincing Lois that dragons do exist. No easy chore. Her endless questions give him no peace to think things through, and her long legs too often draw his attention. Xan must open her eyes to the truth and keep her safe all the while fulfilling his duty to kill a powerful beast.

The interaction between Xan and Lois made me laugh out loud numerous times. In public. Xan's a modern knight. Stoic, honest, and short on words. Lois will never be a princess in need of rescuing. She's loud, messy, and has a wonderful sense of humor. Most of it is lost on Xan, but she'll get a smile out of him eventually.

Title: 1303 The Dragonslayer (The 13th Floor series, #3)
Author: Christine Rains
Genre: paranormal romance
Release date: February 13th, 2013

On the rooftop of neighboring building, dragonslayer Xanthus Ehrensvard fires at his target, Governor Whittaker. How he missed the shot, he doesn't know, but fleeing the scene, he picks up an unwanted passenger. Gorgeous reporter Lois King saw Xan's face, and she believes it's the story to make her career. Except he can't let her walk away knowing what he looks like. Xan has to show her the Governor is a bigger threat to the world than he is.

Xan knows dragons never went extinct. They evolved with human society, taking on mortal forms, and slithered their way into positions of great influence and power, just like the Governor.
But it's no easy chore proving to someone that dragons still exist, and even more so, they're disguised as famous people. Xan must convince Lois or find another way to silence her. An option, as he gets to know her, he likes less and less.

After all, dragonslayers are no longer celebrated heroes but outlaws. Just as the dragons wish it. But this outlaw must make a plan to slay the dragon or risk its retribution.

Great post. I loved how the drama of the dragonslaying was offset by the sparky relationship between these two.

  6. Christine, if you're ever in WV, stop by and join my Trivial Pursuit team. We play men vs women and we always lose. I blame the sports category.

Best of luck with the book!

    1. I'd love that, but I'm horrible at the sports category too. I grew up playing Trivial Pursuit, so I might remember all the questions, though! Thank you.

  7. The idea of a dragon passing as a human and getting elected to Senate is particularly interesting; can you imagine if there actually were dragons passing as humans in real life? It would certainly explain why certain politicians keep getting into trouble.

  8. I know what you mean. Although I don't draw the settings (I know I should, but then I have a million other stuff I should do for my fantasy as well. Sigh.), I've researched prevalent architecture for the buildings I used and collected photos so that I know where I am and what I'm talking about.
Great interview! Read Me Dead sounds like it has a really good story in there!

IWSG: Performance anxiety

Welcome to the August edition of IWSG, hosted by the amazing Alex J.Cavanaugh ! So, as most of you know by now - because I haven't shut up about it LOL - my first novel, Game On, has been released. The blog tour officially starts next week (YAY!) but I find myself becoming increasingly nervous. A blog tour not only highlights my book, but me. What if people don't like me? What if my guest posts suck, and everyone thinks I'm boring? If I can't engage people in 300 words on a blog, they probably aren't going to pick up my book. And then there's the "what happens next" question. I plan to make Game On into a series, which feels a bit arrogant of me. I don't know how many people are going to like the first book, should I really be planning to keep the series going? So far, Game On has actually been incredibly well received. I've had great reviews, so maybe I shouldn't worry about people not liking it, but what if Book Two isn't as goo

Dust It Off Bloghop!

Welcome to day one of the Dust It Off Bloghop, hosted by Theresa Paolo and Cortney Pearson ! This hop is all about the WIPs you wrote, and then shelved! Okay, so I am teaming up with Clare Dugmore for this one, because back in 2006 - yup, we've known each other THAT long lol! - we started to write a book together. Unfortunately, other commitments got in the way and we never finished it - but even so many years on - it's still something we remember fondly, so we're going to dust it off for you! The first day, May 3rd: We want you to post a 1-2 sentence pitch (Great way to practice pitches) about the shelved WIP. Here is the pitch Clare and I came up with: For best friends Caitlin and Tori, their first acting job out of Uni opens up a whole new world for them – unfortunately, it wasn’t the world they were expecting. When the strains of adult life and tangled relationships threaten to ruin their friendship, they are forced to take a look at what’s really importan
